SaskPower warning customers about text message scam

SaskPower is warning customers that text messages which claim to be offering a refund due to over-billing are a scam, according to a statement released Wednesday.“These messages are NOT from SaskPower and we will NEVER make transactions via e-transfer,” said the statement.According to SaskPower, the link in the message takes users to a website where they are asked to enter their banking information. Scammers may use this information to get money or commit identity theft.“SaskPower takes the confidentiality of personal customer information very seriously,” continued the statement. SaskPower recommends any customers that have become a victim of fraud to call their bank as well as their local police department and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.Story continues belowThis advertisement has not loaded yet,but your article continues below.“If in doubt, please contact SaskPower customer service at 1-888-757-6937 to ask about the state of your account,” said SaskPower.
