first_imgDONEGAL will see snow this Christmas, according to forecasters.Forecasters say we will get some snow on the hills today and some more on Christmas Eve.And some of them say we will get snow on Christmas Day – and that could prove amateur weatherman and postman Michael Gallagher correct! Michael, who studies nature to predict the weather, had been dismissed as a crank by RTE forecaster Evelyn Cusack in a number of broadcasts. But whether or not his methods are correct, forecasters from Met Eireann, the BBC and the UK Met Office and online sites are all pointing to a windy – and snowy – Christmas for Donegal this year.Geoff Maskell from the BBC said gales will lash the North West over the next few days, with a storm expected on Monday. He said there will be snow on Sunday morning – and again on Sunday evening. And there will be more snow on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, with a chance of some snow in the North West on Christmas Day.However most of it will fall on higher ground. Here’s Met Eireann’s forecast until December 26Very disturbed weather through the next week with some extremely windy or stormy periods likelyCold on Saturday evening and overnight with further showers, mostly in southwestern, western and northern counties, some turning wintry in places overnight.Sharp frost developing with icy stretches on untreated surfaces and overnight lows of around zero.Sunday will be very cold with blustery westerly winds and occasional wintry showers. Falls of sleet and snow are likely – especially in the west and north of the country. Cold and frosty for a time Sunday night, but temperatures rising overnight as more heavy rain and strong winds spread countrywide by Monday morning.Monday: Potentially stormy on Monday and into Monday night, as heavy rain and gale force southerly winds give way to colder showery conditions with gale force southwest winds with severe squalls, which may cause some structural damage in places.Cold, very windy and showery on Christmas Eve, some showers possibly wintry on higher ground of the northwest. Afternoon highs of 5 to 7 degrees.Cold and frosty overnight.Latest indications suggest a frosty start to Christmas morning. The day is expected to be cold and bright day with some showers especially in the south and west with another milder, wet and extremely windy or stormy period expected on St Stephen’s day. MICKEY THE POSTMAN MIGHT BE RIGHT AS SNOW COULD BE ON WAY FOR CHRISTMAS was last modified: December 20th, 2013 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Donegal Dailysnowweatherlast_img read more

They are also held up as examples to South Africans around the world.Khumalo said that selecting the final 200 was rigorous. The event held to launch the list was “about recognising and celebrating all of your unseen hours; all of you put blood, sweat and actual tears into your organisations, into the companies that you work for, the initiatives that you have started.“The 200 Young South Africans is, of course, a flagship that this country uses to earmark its top leaders,” she said. “These are the young people who are shaping the South Africa that we are living in, and who are going to be instrumental in the future that we’re slowly building.“There are so many unseen hours. Ranchi Rhinos pull out of Hockey India League for financial reasons

first_imgThere seems to be more trouble on the way for the Hockey India League. Just days after the Mumbai Magicians exited from the ambitious franchisebased competition, Ranchi Rhinos could also be on their way out.Winners of the first edition of the league, the Rhinos have cited ‘financial’ reasons for terminating the contract. According to sources, the owners had a tiff with Hockey India over the franchise fee.”The owners of Ranchi Rhinos wanted certain reduction in the fee structure. They were not getting the returns they had expected when they bought the franchise. When the discussions with Hockey India didn’t work out, they decided to withdraw from the league,” a source told MAIL TODAY.While there are reports that the federation is still trying to negotiate with the team owners, the players have already received an email from Hockey India stating that the team has ceased to exist. “We were shocked when we received the email. We had no clue that something like this will happen. We have not yet received any mail from the owners and are in the dark about the reasons for the withdrawal,” a Ranchi Rhinos player said.According to sources, the decision to pull the plug on the team was taken only recently. “Ranchi Rhinos did not plan to withdraw to start with. In fact, they were preparing for the next edition and were looking at possible players to purchase in the upcoming auction. But, when things didn’t work out with Hockey India, they decided to quit. Speculation about this was doing the rounds over the last few days,” he said.advertisementHowever, Hockey India secretary general Narinder Batra rubbished the reports and Ranchi Rhinos were still part of the league. “No team has pulled out. The Hockey India League will be held as per schedule next year and Ranchi will be part of it,” he told MAIL TODAY. Meanwhile, there are reports that Hockey India is planning to rope in two more teams into the league.last_img read more

10 months agoUNCOVERED: The 3-step process for Liverpool to make new signings

first_imgUNCOVERED: The 3-step process for Liverpool to make new signingsby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool’s three-step approach to making new signings has been revealed. The Times has detailed how different members of Liverpool’s management structure work together to bring in new additions. The three-step policy is as follows:Firstly, a footballer cannot be signed unless he is wanted by the manager.Secondly, the player must also have the blessing of FSG. The owners have the right to say no and stop all plans to sign the player. For example, if manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to bring in an older striker in for £40 million, but FSG did not want to part ways with that kind of cash for a player whose career could soon be over, then the choice would rest with them.Thirdly, the transfer must be in keeping with the latest trends of the transfer market. Spotting opportunities and assessing availability should set guidelines for purchasing and selling. TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Stephen A. Smith Bashes Curt Schilling, Challenges Him To A Debate

first_imgStephen A. Smith and Curt Schilling. Stephen A Smith ESPNESPN/SmithFormer Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling was fired by ESPN last month after a series of controversial social media posts – and he’s made it clear that he isn’t exactly impressed with the network’s decision. One of his former coworkers isn’t exactly impressed with Schilling’s take on the whole matter.Stephen A. Smith, who is a lightning rod for controversy himself, took some shots at Schilling on the SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio show. He also challenged him to a debate regarding Schilling’s firing – noting that he’d need ESPN’s permission. Smith repeatedly mentions that Schilling’s unwillingness to listen to his employer is what lost him his job.“You (Schilling) want to sit here and have a debate about what really went on?” an indignant SAS asked. “Name the time and place and I’ll show up, with the permission of ESPN — of course. I guess listening to my boss makes me a bad guy. Well guess what? I’d rather be bad than stupid.”“I can’t stand people who worked for ESPN that depart from ESPN clearly harboring whatever bitterness they harbor and try to throw talent under the bus — like talent has something to do with them being gone,” Smith said on SXM. “I have nothing to do with it.”“Let me speak up on behalf of ESPN when I say this to Curt Schilling: …You are gone not because you have conservative views instead of liberal views. Your ass is gone because you did not want to listen,” Smith said on SXM. “ESPN tells me to shut-up, they’re my employer whether I like it or not. If I want to keep my job, I’ve got to shut the hell up.”Smith is clearly playing the company man card, for whatever it’s worth. It’s an interesting take from someone who has gotten himself in trouble with his employer before.Either way, we’d love to see this debate. We doubt it’ll ever come to fruition, however.[NY Daily News]last_img read more
