Back on the streets: Tens of thousands of farmers in Maharashtra marched to the State capital Mumbai on Thursday to demand loan waivers and the transfer of forestland to villagers who have farmed there for decades. There have been protests by farmers all over the country over falling income and other issues. Many of those marching in Maharashtra had joined a similar protest in March when the State promised to settle the land rights issue. Reuters quoted one protester as saying that “nothing has been done.” The farmers, mostly from the tribal belt of the State, are also demanding farm loan waivers and higher prices for grain, milk and other produce. This week, a report submitted by the Union Agriculture Ministry to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance said millions of farmers in India were unable to buy seeds and fertilizer for their winter crops because of demonetisation. Full and outside off, de Grandhomme looks to flick but misses. He is not sure where the ball is but Latham is halfway down the track, looking for the bye. He has to turn back as de Grandhomme is searching for the ball. Dhoni calmly throws the ball to Bumrah who runs forward towards the stumps a bit and then throws the ball. Bull’s eye! Latham furiously hits the ground with his bat. He is applauded from the dressing room. What a knock again. But this time his team might fall short. 26 needed from 13 balls now. New Zealand 312/6 (47.5 overs) vs India 337/621.09 IST: WICKET! The hushed crowd finds its voice again! Who cares about the past when you are doing well in the present? Bhuvi might have gone for 77 in his previous 8 overs but right now, his focus is only to try and bowl as accurately as possible in these last few overs. He does not have too many runs to play with and has been excellent in this over with this lengths. This is pretty full, around the legs, Nicholls gets across to flick but misses the ball completely. The ball shatters the leg stump and the bails illuminate! End of a 59-run stand. Nicholls departs for a very useful 37 from 24 balls. The momentum swings towards India again. The required run rate is slowly touching 9 an over. Normally you do tend to favour the chasing side with so many wickets in hand, but unless dew plays a big part, India have the edge here. The Kiwis will hope that this stand at least takes them to within 50 runs of victory. And here comes one of their biggest obstacles in doing that – JASPRIT BUMRAH.20:08 IST: Interesting. Very interesting. The on-air commentators were discussing about how far the Kiwi batsmen were backing up at the bowler’s end. While they were talking, the image was being shown of Taylor backing up too far on the giant screen. Kohli spots that and has a word with the umpires who in turn, have a word with Taylor. The question to be asked here is – Should the umpires be telling the batsmen about this? Or should it just be left to the consequences which will result in Mankading?advertisement20:07 IST: WIDE. A slower bouncer, around middle, ducked under. Too high and the umpire stretches his arms. 50-RUN STAND is up, in 44 balls. New Zealand will want these two to up the ante now. The equation is now going out of hands for the Kiwis… 170 needed from 128 balls. Replays show that while going for the catch, Dhoni was nearly hit by Williamson’s bat! But all is well in the end. Their openers MARTIN GUPTILL and COLIN MUNRO walk in with the bat and they would aim to help their side by giving them a flying start. Remember, dew could play its part, meaning, the Indian slow bowlers could struggle. The hosts opt to begin with BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR, who will run in with the first new ball. How will the bowlers bowl first up? Slower deliveries or seam their way through? The change in pace has troubled Munro in the past. ATHENS – Behind a 69-63 win over lightly-regarded Red Star Belgrade, Panathinaikos advanced to the top 16 of the Euroleague but worries persist that the Greek powerhouse is underperforming and faces tougher challenges. The Greeks were led by Ramel Curry and James Gist to best the Serbian team, but had to overcome a big deficit in rebounding and a poor night by star player and national team veteran Dimitris Diamantidis.Curry, from Brooklyn and Fresno City College, picked up the slack with his best game of the year, firing in 16 points to bring his team back from a 31-28 halftime deficit. The second half was also tight with the Serbs leading 61-59 before Panathinaikos scored eight unanswered points to break away 67-61.Gist was once again his team’s top player with 15 points, three blocks and five rebounds to get his club into the second group stage of the competition with two games left to play.Panathinaikos had to play without Nikos Pappas, who will be sidelined for six weeks while Lithuanian Jonas Maciulis, one of his most reliable players, suffered an injury in the third quarter and will be out an undetermined time.TweetPinShare0 Shares

Cricketers emerging from the newly-created union territory of Ladakh will represent Jammu and Kashmir in the domestic circuit, for the time being, Indian cricket’s Committee of Administrators (COA) chief Vinod Rai said on Tuesday. The government on Monday bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir to create two union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir but the BCCI won’t have any separate state body for the newest UT for the time being.”We are not thinking of having a separate state body for Ladakh as of now. The players from that region will continue to qualify to represent Jammu and Kashmir in all BCCI domestic competitions,” Rai told PTI on Tuesday. The J&K Ranji team is not known to have featured a player from Ladakh till date. The upcoming Ranji Trophy season is scheduled to start in December later this year.Asked if Ladakh will become a voting member of the BCCI like Puducherry, which is also a Union Territory, Rai said that there has been no discussion on the matter as of now.”Nothing of that sort has been discussed as of now. The arrangement remains the same like it is for Chandigarh which is also a Union territory. Their players either play for Punjab or Haryana in domestic competitions,” Rai said.On the situation in Kashmir, after the government decided to revoke provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Rai said the BCCI has nothing to worry and cricket is expected to continue in the valley as usual.advertisement”We are confident that J&K will play their home games in Srinagar just like last year. There has been no discussion on having an alternate home venue as of now. So nothing changes on that front,” Rai said.Recently, all the age-group, as well as senior team camps in Srinagar, were indefinitely postponed after a state government advisory with regards to a terror threat on Amarnath Yatris. The Jammu and Kashmir team’s mentor along with 100 aspirants left the valley due to the prevailing security situation. Also Read | Article 370 scrapped: Landmark move, says cricketer Suresh RainaAlso See:

GAME PREVIEW Gareth Southgate has been forced to contend with the absence of a spate of key players for England’s end-of-year internationals, but it may prove beneficial as he runs the rule over potential additions to his World Cup panel. With the likes of Kane, Sterling, Alli and Henderson all out, as well as Jones and Delph, Southgate is working with a skeletal Three Lions squad, but those absences have allowed young players to stake an early claim for a place on the plane to Russia.A lot of football will be played between November and next June, but, with the draw for the group stage set to take place on December 1, the preparations have already begun in earnest for the England boss.Having kept Joachim Low’s rampant Germany scoreless last week, the encounter with Neymar and Brazil serves as another real test for England’s young charges, who will hope to give their manager plenty of headaches in the lead up to summer.

A Liverpool legend in the making: Behind Virgil van Dijk’s remarkable rise to world’s best player But the 24-year-old stepped up again when the second spot-kick was awarded, and sent Loris Karius the wrong way to become the second fastest player in Premier League history to net 100 goals, doing so in just 141 appearances. When asked about how he reached the century, Pochettino said of Kane: “He has the personality to have big, big balls.”Only Alan Shearer, the league’s all-time top scorer, has achieved the record faster, doing so in 124 games.Kane has also played for Norwich City in the Premier League, but never scored, meaning that his entire century has come at Spurs.A total of 60 of his goals have come from his right foot, 14 with his head and 26 with his left foot. He has scored 88 goals inside the box, and 12 from outside, including one direct free-kick.Over the course of his 100 goals, Kane has scored eight hat-tricks – the third highest in the Premier League, behind Alan Shearer and Robbie Fowler – and is also the fourth-youngest player to score 100, behind Michael Owen, Fowler and Wayne Rooney. His 100 goals have been boosted by scoring nine times against Leicester City, in just six games, while he has netted eight goals in eight appearances against Stoke City. The result on Sunday leaves Spurs fifth, two points behind the Reds, who remain third.Chelsea, however, can move third on Monday evening if they defeat Watford.
ATLANTA, GA – SEPTEMBER 22: Head Coach Dabo Swinney of the Clemson Tigers calls a play against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on September 22, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)The referees in this evening’s Clemson-Notre Dame College Football Playoff semifinal game have made a couple of questionable calls. The most-recent one might have been the worst of the bunch.A Tigers’ defender pretty clearly ripped the ball out of the hands of a Fighting Irish player, forcing an interception, but Notre Dame was allowed to keep the ball. The referees somewhat ruled on the field that forward progress had been stopped (it hadn’t).The play was therefore un-reviewable.Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is not happy.“That’s one of the most absurd calls I’ve ever seen… forward progress has never been called that fast in the history of this sport,” tweeted one writer. That’s one of the most absurd calls I’ve ever seen… forward progress has never been called that fast in the history of this sport.— Ryan McCrystal (@Ryan_McCrystal) December 30, 2018“Forward progress is the worst cop out in the entire sport… just admit you screwed up the call fools,” tweeted Reddit CFB.Forward progress is the worst cop out in the entire sport… just admit you screwed up the call fools— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) December 30, 2018Matt Hinton probably had the best take on the play:“Let’s go ahead and declare forward progress to the end of this game,” he tweeted.Let’s go ahead and declare forward progress to the end of this game.— Matt Hinton (@MattRHinton) December 30, 2018Clemson is currently beating Notre Dame, 30-3, with about 13 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The game is on ESPN.
