Manchester City poised to sign £30m French defender

first_img1 Manchester City have made a breakthrough in their long pursuit of Eliaquim Mangala after the France international agreed a £30million move, talkSPORT understands.The Premier League champions have been admirers of the Porto defender for some time and tried to get a deal done in January only to be rejected.But despite interest from a whole host of major clubs including City’s domestic rivals, Chelsea and Manchester United, Manuel Pellegrini’s side appear to have finally got their man.The 23-year-old reportedly said earlier in the summer he favoured a move to Stamford Bridge but with no bid forthcoming, he has settled for a switch to the Etihad.Provided there are no hitches, Mangala – who is understood to have already undergone a successful medical – will become the second Porto star to join the Blues after former team-mate Fernando made the move earlier this summer.The Frenchman is expected to join up with the City squad after a post-World Cup holiday.
