MPs told to return pay-off

first_imgWednesday 11 August 2010 8:48 pm Show Comments ▼ FORMER Labour cabinet ministers should hand back the £20,000 pay-off they received on leaving government to apologise for running up a huge budget deficit, the coalition government said yesterday. In an attack that was dismissed as a “gimmick” by Labour, Conservative party chairman Baroness Warsi has written to MPs who served in Gordon Brown’s cabinet, accusing them of accepting “rewards for failure”. “By running up colossal debts on the nation’s credit card… what Labour did to British people is frankly criminal,” she said at a press conference yesterday. The coalition is trying to make sure that voters blame the previous government for swingeing public sector spending cuts planned by chancellor George Osborne.A Labour spokeswoman dismissed Warsi’s claims as “pathetic” and “diversionary”. Sainsbury’s

first_img whatsapp Show Comments ▼ Tags: NULL SAINSBURY’S was a little more low key about its sales rise and consumer sentiment than Tesco which posted sales figures earlier in the week. With Sir Terry Leahy signing off with his last set of results it is hardly surprising that Tesco has stolen some of Sainsbury’s thunder. However, Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King echoed Sir Terry’s view that consumer confidence was far from falling off a cliff. Sainsbury’s has added more than 266,000 sq ft to its retail space with the opening of three new superstores and with like-for -like sales up 2.9 per cent and online sales rising, the company’s data is far from bleak. Sam Hart at Charles Stanley said the shares had been prospering but expectations should now be reined in. In a note he said: “We think the valuation is now starting to look slightly rich and anticipate a period of share price consolidation. “Our recommendation is downgraded from ‘Accumulate’ to ‘Hold’. “We see better value in Tesco (‘Accumulate’) and Morrison (‘Accumulate’) at present.”The shares are “hold” for now. whatsapp KCS-content center_img Share by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastNoteabley25 Funny Notes Written By StrangersNoteableyMoneyPailShe Was A Star, Now She Works In ScottsdaleMoneyPailSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesBrake For ItThe Most Worthless Cars Ever MadeBrake For ItBetterBe20 Stunning Female AthletesBetterBemoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comMagellan TimesThis Is Why The Roy Rogers Museum Has Been Closed For GoodMagellan Times More From Our Partners Brave 7-Year-old Boy Swims an Hour to Rescue His Dad and Little Sistergoodnewsnetwork.orgA ProPublica investigation has caused outrage in the U.S. this weekvaluewalk.comAstounding Fossil Discovery in California After Man Looks Closelygoodnewsnetwork.orgKiller drone ‘hunted down a human target’ without being told tonypost.comNative American Tribe Gets Back Sacred Island Taken 160 Years Agogoodnewsnetwork.org980-foot skyscraper sways in China, prompting panic and evacuationsnypost.comRussell Wilson, AOC among many voicing support for Naomi Osakacbsnews.comPuffer fish snaps a selfie with lucky divernypost.comPolice Capture Elusive Tiger Poacher After 20 Years of Pursuing the Huntergoodnewsnetwork.orgMark Eaton, former NBA All-Star, dead at 64nypost.comI blew off Adam Sandler 22 years ago — and it’s my biggest regretnypost.comUK teen died on school trip after teachers allegedly refused her pleasnypost.comMatt Gaetz swindled by ‘malicious actors’ in $155K boat sale boondogglenypost.comSupermodel Anne Vyalitsyna claims income drop, pushes for child supportnypost.comBiden received funds from top Russia lobbyist before Nord Stream 2 giveawaynypost.comSidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin are graying and frayingnypost.comFlorida woman allegedly crashes children’s birthday party, rapes teennypost.com‘The Love Boat’ captain Gavin MacLeod dies at 90nypost.com Wednesday 6 October 2010 7:54 pm Sainsbury’s last_img read more

BEST OF THE BROKERS

first_img NATIONAL GRIDStandard & Poor’s has downgraded the utility to “sell” from “hold”, with a target price of 516p. The broker notes National Grid’s 10.7 per cent share price rise in the last year, resulting in a 12.4 per cent outperformance of the sector, which could lead to profit-taking soon. Planned capital expenditure is also on the radar.UBSCredit Suisse has cut its rating to “neutral” from “outperform” with a reduced target price of €20.50. The broker has also slashed its forecasts for 2010, 11 and 12, thanks mainly to the firm’s investment banking division. Credit Suisse says the fixed income trading revenue line is significantly more volatile than expected. MORRISONSGoldman Sachs has downgraded the supermarket to “neutral” from “buy” with a target price of 350p. The broker believes the firm’s growth and returns opportunity is represented in the current price. While GS believes the trial of online and metro stores in 2011 may provide growth, a larger factor is the uncertain state of the UK economy. by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastMoneyPailShe Was A Star, Now She Works In ScottsdaleMoneyPailDiscovery23+ Sports Stadiums Around the World That Are Abandoned NowDiscoverySerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesElite HeraldExperts Discover Girl Born From Two Different SpeciesElite HeraldZen HeraldThe Truth About Why ’40s Actor John Wayne Didn’t Serve In WWII Has Come To LightZen Heraldmoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comTaonga: The Island FarmThe Most Relaxing Farm Game of 2021. According to research from the Bordeaux Index – which tracks live changes in the prices of 80 to 100 of the most traded wines – demand for fine wine grew by 26 per cent in the year to date, and 39 per cent in 2009.Demand for premium wines above £80 far outstrips supply. One wine, Chateau Lafite, is not ready to drink yet, but sold at a Hong Kong auction for £43,000 a case – three times its market value.Wine merchants do not see a speculative bubble forming, despite the rapid price rise. Gary Boom, managing director and founder of Bordeaux Index, says that most wine sold leaves London, suggesting that investors actually consume the wine. The news comes as the Hong Kong International Spirits and Wines fair begins. The Fair is the largest in Asia, and has twice as many vendors this year as last. Hong Kong now has more wine auctions than London, trailing only New York. The Bordeaux Index research also showed prices for the most popular wines climbed 1.7 per cent during October, driven largely by a 45 per cent rise in turnover compared with the same month a year ago.Boom said: “With continued strong growth in both Asia and Latin America – and expected improvements from the US and Europe – we’re confident investors’ money will continue to flow into wine over the next two months.” Thursday 4 November 2010 9:38 pm Tags: NULLlast_img read more

Mullins, 57, was quoted over the weekend, saying he planned to keep a 50 per cent stake in the business and use the proceeds of the flotation to expand nationwide. In May, Mullins was in talks with Jim Zockoll, who founded Dyno-Rod, but the pair disagreed on Zockoll’s preferred strategy of franchising the business. Pimlico Plumbers, whose customers include Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley, had profits of £343,168 for the year to the end of May.
