On early 2014, a client visited the office.  She was on her early 30s, married 2 years ago, and has never lived outside Seoul.  She was planning exodus from vicious circle of debt. (Many newly married couple of Seoul begin with small house of high monthly rent, and move to a bigger house after having baby.  This means that the amount of debt grows dramatically before the couple’s paying back the money.)  To make a shift from the vicious circle to the virtuous one, she and her husband decided to start a rural life with her single mother.Save this picture!© Shin Do KeunLuckily, she could buy a small estate near seaside town from her relative.  The town has a beautiful name ‘Sowon-myeon Padori’ (meas ‘wish’ and ‘wave’ in Korean), and she wanted her house and a small guesthouse for dog lovers there.  All through her life, the client always has been with her dogs, but she often had trouble with finding good stay for her and her dogs while traveling.  She dreamed a small but comfortable place for all the dog lovers.  The beautiful location, her decision to break a social convention, and a unique program of ‘special guesthouse for dog lovers’, all these conditions fascinated the architects, and the project went fast.  The architects presented the name of the guesthouse Mungzip (means the Bow-wow house in Korean) and also suggested a side project making the dog house as well.Save this picture!Floor PlanThe main program of ‘the guesthouse for both dogs and travelers’ asked a playground for the guests. However, the site was on the sloppy ground, and naturally, the main task was how to make flat playground and making a good combination among the guesthouse, private residence, and the playground.  After a series of meeting with the client, the suggestion of making a slight sloppy playground above a stonework wall was selected.  The client happily agreed on putting budgets on the wall for making better environment for the dogs.  However, the total budget was fixed, and the guesthouse and the private residence were suggested to be in one body.  The guesthouse took the ground floor along the playground, and the private home was to be stacked aboveSave this picture!© Shin Do KeunThe next task was keeping privacy between the guesthouse and the private house. The private house was split into two masses of the married couple and her mother, and the axis was rotated and the masses were shifted aside. This minimized the overlapped volume of each program, and naturally lessens the noise problem.  The small overlapped parts were assigned to the common area of each floor.Save this picture!SectionThe architects considered a few details for the guests and their dogs.  For safety, the fence at the edge of the playground was made only with vertical members to prevent dogs climbing over.  Every room and common kitchen faces the playground and has direct separate access.  This helps dogs freely walk around the playground and the rooms.  The tile finish of each room also helps dogs easily go into the room without having their feet cleaned.  Every window hits the floor to give eyelevel view to the dogs. Save this picture!© Shin Do KeunProject gallerySee allShow less3Cubes Office Building / gmp ArchitektenSelected ProjectsAD Classics: Centre Culturel Jean-Marie Tjibaou / Renzo PianoArchitecture Classics Share South Korea Guesthouse Mungzip + Padori Private Residence / designband YOAP architects CopyHouses•Taean-gun, South Korea Products translation missing: en-US.post.svg.material_description CopyAbout this officedesignband YOAP architectsOfficeFollowProductsWoodGlassConcrete#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesTaean-gunSouth KoreaPublished on August 05, 2015Cite: “Guesthouse Mungzip + Padori Private Residence / designband YOAP architects” 04 Aug 2015. Missing Colorado mom’s parents win temporary custody of their baby granddaughter

first_imgiStock(WOODLAND PARK, Colo.) — A Colorado man accused of murdering his fiancee appeared in court on Thursday, where a judge ordered that the couple’s baby daughter be temporarily placed in the custody of the missing woman’s parents.Patrick Frazee, who was arrested last week on suspicion of killing his fiancee, attended the hearing in Teller County, Colorado, before being returned to jail.Kelsey Berreth, a 29-year-old pilot, was last seen entering a Safeway near her home in Woodland Park, Colorado, on Nov. 22, according to surveillance footage from the store, but Frazee said he saw her later that day.Berreth’s mother reported her missing on Dec. 2, police said. Police said they believe she is dead, but her body has not been recovered. Authorities said they found possible evidence in connection to the case on Dec. 22, but declined to offer specific details. The custody hearing was scheduled before Berreth went missing, but her parents were added to the case as special respondents earlier this month.Frazee, 31, refused to answer reporters’ questions as sheriffs escorted him back to jail after the hearing.Frazee’s mother filed a motion to intervene in the case, court records show, but it’s unclear if she filed a request for custody. Fourteen-month-old Kaylee had been staying with Frazee until he was arrested last Friday on a charge of first-degree murder. He is also facing a charge of solicitation to commit murder, suggesting that police believe he did not act alone. Frazee is scheduled to appear in court in connection with the murder charge on Monday. The next hearing in the custody case is Jan. 3.On the same day that Berreth’s cellphone pinged in Idaho, her employer, Doss Aviation, in Pueblo, Colorado, received a text message presumably from Berreth stating that she would not be able to work the following week, police said.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio. Federal authorities seize massive 221-pound shipment of cocaine at Southern California port

first_imgCustoms and Border Protection(LOS ANGELES) — Federal authorities seized two massive shipments of cocaine at the same California port of entry in late January. The total for the two shipments was 221 pounds — the largest at that port in 25 years, according to officials. The busts, which were announced on Friday, were both found aboard ships at Port Hueneme in Ventura County, about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, coming from Central and South America. The first shipment, which was 204.2 pounds, was seized on Jan. 22 on a cargo ship from Ecuador.Six days later, the same authorities found a seven-bundle, 17.5-pound shipment of cocaine on a ship from Guatemala. Both deliveries were concealed beneath the floorboards of the ships.Customs and Border Protection, Home Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized the drugs in a joint operation.“CBP plays a critical role in the effort to keep dangerous drugs from illegally entering the country. Specifically, by leveraging a comprehensive, multi-layered, intelligence driven, and threat-based approach to enhance the security of our seaports, we can diminish the effectiveness of transnational criminal organizations drug operations,” Carlos C. Martel, CBP director of Field Operations in Los Angeles, said in a statement. The seizures came just days after a joint drug bust between Australian and U.S. authorities on Jan. 11 resulted in a record 1.7 tons of methamphetamine being found at Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport. The location of the bust announced Friday is only about 90 minutes northwest of Long Beach seaport. That shipment included a record 3,810 pounds of meth, 55.9 pounds of cocaine and 11.5 pounds of heroin. Australian officials said the total street value of the haul was $1.29 billion.Officials said the seizure announced Friday was the largest bust at Port Hueneme “in the last quarter century.”No one has been arrested in the drug bust, according to CBP, but an investigation into the shipment is ongoing.CBP seizes an average of 5,863 pounds of narcotics every day, according to government statistics.CBP’s Office of Field Operations, which monitors 328 ports of entry, seized 62,331 pounds of cocaine for fiscal year 2017, the last year for which full statistics are available. Another 9,346 pounds of cocaine were seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.Copyright © 2019, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.last_img read more
