The other PILs are filed by Param Bir Singh and an advocate – Ghanshyam Upadhyay. Singh’s PIL will be heard by a bench led by the Chief Justice tomorrow. Two writ petitions in the Bombay HC by an advocate and activist are also pending for similar reliefs. On Tuesday, a division bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale pulled up an advocate for invoking the writ jurisdiction of the court for an independent probe into the former Commissioner’s allegations, calling it “cheap publicity.” Bhide says he runs an educational institute and has not approached the court for “any personal gain with ulterior motives.” Bhide in his petition, further states that after Param Bir’s letter was reported in the print and electronic media, “all the citizens of India especially those who are residing in the State of Maharashtra on in Mumbai were echoing one common feeling that if the HM and Police personnel of the highest stature are involved in such illegal activities then, the citizens of the country are not safe.”Subscribe to LiveLaw, enjoy Ad free version and other unlimited features, just INR 599 Click here to Subscribe.
