Football Quarterback JT Barrett named Big Ten player of the week

Barrett’s efforts in leading the Buckeyes to a 39-38 victory against Penn State Saturday were recognized Monday as he was named the Big Ten Player of the Week.Barrett has received the award nine times in his career, tying him with former Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne and former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson for the most awards in conference history.Barrett was near perfect Saturday as he completed 33-of-39 passes, including four drops from receivers. He threw 328 passing yards with four touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards on 17 carries. The three-time captain led the Buckeyes’ fourth-quarter comeback Saturday as he completed his final 16 passing attempts — a program record — and threw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, including one to tight end Marcus Baugh to give Ohio State its first lead of the game with less than two minutes left. After the game, Meyer said he had never had a quarterback play perfect before, but Barrett was “close tonight.” read more
